What is Tykes Mighty Movers?
Tykes Mighty Movers is a 12 week motor development programme. It consists of activities and exercises that are the building blocks of physical skills. These building blocks are body awareness, balance and strength, bilateral integration (using both sides of the body at the same time), visual perception and fine motor. The programme is designed to be done in schools, but it can also be done at home.
How often should the activities be practiced?
There are 5 exercises to be done each week, they should be done daily or at least 3 times a week. The more often you do them the better they will work! We expect each session to take about 15 to 20 minutes.
What do you do if the activity is too easy?
You will see that most of the exercise videos contain ideas of how to make the activities harder if your child is finding them too easy.
How should the child’s performance be recorded?
There is an exercise record sheet for you to complete alongside the exercises and you will find a list of any resources needed on this sheet.
What next?
At the end of the programme, if the child is improving, please repeat the programme.
If after completing the programme there are still concerns about your child’s motor skills, please refer to Children’s therapy. Link to Referral Page.
