ADL - Hygiene - Bathing & Showering

Here is a video from our friends at Sheffield Children's Hospital.  You can find advice and prompt sheets below and on the following hygiene pages.

Some children struggle with knowing where to begin with washing – using a verbal &/or visual checklist to work through will prompt to work through each stage

Eg:

Wash face, then arms, tummy, legs then bottom (link to sheet)

Some children may have sensitive skin or dislike the feel of water, they may prefer:

Warm water instead of hot

Short or timed baths/ showers (use a timer so they know when its going to stop)

Mild and unscented soap and shampoo

To be pat dried or wrapped in a towelling robe rather than being rubbed dry
