ADL - Orientation

Orientation of Clothing

Some children may find dressing difficult and put their clothing on back to front or inside out. Here are some tips to help with orientation of clothing.

Here is an amazing video from our friends at Sheffield Children's Hospital about helping turn clothes the right way round:

Help your child to orientate items of their clothing the correct way before they start to dress.

T-shirts with logos may help children putting on clothes the right way.

Explain to your child that the labels are in the back of the clothes - this will teach your child which way around to put your clothes on.

Practice turning clothing inside out and back again.

Ensure you have sufficient time to practice orientation of clothing with your child.

Orientation of Shoes

Shoe L&R sticker

Place a coloured sticker in your left shoe, and another coloured sticker in your right shoe to help your child put their shoes on the correct feet.

Cut a cartoon character sticker in half, place one half of the sticker in the left shoe and the other half of the sticker in the right shoe. Push your shoes together to form the cartoon character. This should help your child put their shoes on the correct feet.
